SwiftKey is another feather in Android's cap

Despite being an avowed Crackberry addict, Android based phones are begining to turn my head somewhat. (In particular I'm ratther taken with the Galaxy S3.) Critically, the ecosystem is growing hugely with some very attractive hardware and software coming onto the market. That ecosystem is significantly more flexible still than Apple's walled garden.

British based SwiftKey is rather good proof of all of this. It installs a new keyboard onto your Android device, which then put words that you are likely to use at the top of the keyboard so that you can easily tap them into whatever you're writing - one click one word! It is more clever than predicitive text though, as the propreitary software intutively learns the words and phrases you use. These could be technical terms, friends' or colleagues' names, and so on and it can be linked to applications like email and Twitter to become more realistic and helpful. .

SwiftKey, like other similar apps, is not available on iOS as Apple will not allow any add on keyboards: you can only produce a keyboard in iOS as part of an app e.g. WhatsApp not add one into the Apple's messaging features.

It seems though that SwiftKey are doing ok just in the Android space at the moment though!
